Irish techno wizards Psycatron have collaborated with Paris the Black Fu of Detroit Grand Pubahs, who added vox and co-produced to deliver a pulsing, contorted track topped with Paris' ruminations on return, revisitation and renewal... As the track builds over, and at the halfway mark when melody finally kicks in, the fact that this is a return to addiction brings a casual fatalism to the refrain “It's strange how I said I'd never go back.... never say never”. Like a 21st century follow up to Depeche Mode's “Policy Of Truth” where the “Never again, is what you swore, the time before” is inverted to the surprise of finally coming back to that which was thought truly lost.
SMD's mix, meanwhile, kicks off with a beat that sounds like a trapped man attempting to break his way out of a metal box with no airholes, the sucking, glitchy swirls only reinforcing the claustrophobia. They turn the 'jacking' dial up to 11 and let rip with the high hats under Paris' lament.
