Bristol-based indie-folk mastermind Rozi Plain was born Rosalind Leyden in Winchester 25 years ago. For "Humans", Rozi is ably assisted by a backing band of François Marry of François & The Atlas Mountains, and Jesse D Vernon & Kate Stables of This Is The Kit fame. Already a live favourite with fans, it’s a fast-paced attack of indie-pop, a great taster for what’s to come on Rozi’s new album, and fantastic introduction for anyone new to her sound.
End Can Come, which is exclusive to this release, finds Rozi in a meditative mood, a perfect soundtrack for a warm summers evening with it’s union of atmospheric keys, sparse drums and subtle layers of harmonic vocals, arranged by Markland Starkie of Sleeping States.
Rocketnumbernine are possibly best known for their recent single on Four Tet’s Text Records. They’ve been touring with Four Tet, playing alongside him as part of his own live set as well as providing support. With fans including Giles Peterson who they recorded a session for last year, Rocketnumbernine are set to make a lot of noise this year, and their remix of Humans is a perfect example of their free-flowing, jazz inflected sound via keyboards, electronics and drums, and this excellent remix has already garnered fans in Four Tet and Caribou among others.
As ever with Need No Water releases, the 7” is beautifully presented, available on white vinyl with Humans, End Can Come and Humans (Rocketnumbernine remix), packaged with a download code for all three tracks PLUS the Rome Pays Off remix (all tracks will also be available simply as a download for those without record players).
