Strut follow up Trevor Jackson’s acclaimed ‘Metal Dance’ compilation of original industrial, post-punk and EBM (Electronic Body Music) gems with a 12” single featuring three essential cuts from the compilation, none of which feature on the LP edition. “We have picked three tracks from the compilation that are crying out for a loud cut on a 12”, explains Jackson, founder of the legendary Output label and man behind Playgroup. A-side ‘The Duke Arrives’ is taken from the cult ‘80s favourite ‘Escape From New York’ soundtrack, a pulsing, ominous synthscape by director John Carpenter and composer Alan Howarth. The rare edit featured here, originally released on an Italian 12” only, comes courtesy of Mario Boncaldo, one half of revered Italo electro duo, Klein & MBO. On the flip, we feature the machine funk of ‘Dream Games’, the B-side of the 1981 single ‘Dynamo Beat’ by performance artists-turned-singers, Shock. Produced by Richard James Burgess of Landscape, the track was originally released after the troupe had grown from regular gigs at London club Blitz to supporting Gary Numan at Wembley Arena. Continuing the New Romantic links, we also feature a dub of ‘Do What You Wanna Do’ by The Cage, the alter ego of Bitz club promoter and DJ, Rusty Egan. Featuring Labelle’s Nona Hendryx on vocals, this is a pounding, industrial take on T-Connection’s classic disco hit.
