Danny Berman’s (aka Red Rack’em) life has been hectic for quite a while. But since he moved to Berlin in early 2011, things have gotten really busy. For instance the founding of his own label Smuggler’s Inn (after his long-living radio show by the same name), releases on labels like Bergerac and Ramp Recordings as well as numerous DJ gigs all around the world. And now the debut album by his new project Hot Coins is due as well. Sometime last summer Berman retreated to Austria to secretly and calmly finish the album 'The Damage Is Done', which will be released early 2013 on Sonar Kollektiv. The first 12“ off the album is 'Geek Emotions'. According to Berman, an anthem for all loosers, wrecks and underdogs. As in Arthur Russell. On 'Freestyle Lover', Berman masterfully blends the interfaces of electro, postpunk, new wave and disco. Just like his heroes from the everything-goes-New York of the late 70s did before. A festive encore is guaranteed with the remix by the man of the moment, Jacob Korn. The DJ/producer and Trans-Media-Lab artist from Dresden takes off to one hell of a flight of fancy. He mysteriously deciphers the melancholia of 'Geek Emotions' and uses homeopathic doses of eye-openers in his therapy.
