These two phenomenal tracks are the work of Luciano and Thomas Melchior, a longtime Playhouse and Perlon artist and wry-smiled philosopher who doubtless needs no introduction. 25 minutes of the purest wordless communication, like two scuba divers trading hand signals 10 meters down. You can hear bits of each individual in the mix-Melchior’s characteristic skip and swing and his dexterity with vocal samples, Luciano’s gliding polyrhythms and soft, seamless ruptures-but here their signatures blur into a fluid scrawl all its own. On the A-side, understated beats and occasional bass pops back the sweet, wispy sounds and soulful vocal to create a serene atmosphere. The flip is a bit weirder, as Melchior and Luciano flirt with live drums and an out of time bass sequence but these elements and the incomprehensible vocals add to the overall altered, blissful state this release inhabits.
