Since the celebrated "Sunshine", John Talabot has been focusing in developing his distinct sound, firmly rooted in house but progressively becoming more and more permeable to a diverse array of styles. "Families", his new EP for Young Turks, displays the Barcelonian producer focusing on more complex song-structures and wisely blending synths and samples to deliver three new compositions that enlighten his most adventurous side without losing his unmistakable style. The title track, "Families" is a mesmerizing track built around crystalline keys and pads that serve as the perfect foundations for Glasser's beatific voice. As the song progresses it expands into a lush collision of sparkling melodies and shining vocals for a dazzling effect. "Lover's Tradition" kicks off with one of Talabot's signature raw percussive beats which later on welcomes oriental flavoured plucked strings samples, pitched vocals and a marching rhythm. These elements melt together to build an ecstatic house gem that will blow away hearts and dance floors with equal ease. "Lamento" is a haunting composition fueled by masterfully chopped vocals that set up a fevered dialogue between them to create a delirious but highly emotional mood backed up with a tempo increasing rhythm. The pack gets completed with the title's track "Lonely Club Refix". A deep house reconstruction that wraps up the original's vocals in a classic house beat, abysmal chords and a rolling bassline with über-smooth results. A release that features the most adventurous Talabot's productions to date and the confirmation that we are in front of a restless explorer of his own musical horizons.
