Tornado Wallace is the alter ego of a certain Mr Lewie Day, hailing from Melbourne and having recently started making great waves following excellent releases on Murmur, 8bit and Herzlich. Tornado Wallace pushes down the deeper, Detroit-inspired route which is why he approached us here at Delusions with these very special tracks. "Paddlin'" positively throbs and pumps with a deep, downbeat attitude and a kind of swampy vibe emanating throughout. Detroit pads hiss and suck their way through the compressor giving energy and drive to the track whilst the underpinning funk sample make sure that the groove focuses firmly on the dancefloor. "Swimmin'" is a reworking of "Paddlin'" but drops the bpm's just a touch for a slightly more funked up feel and an arrangement. The main loop is pushed to the fore and filtered strings keep the tension high. Spirits are indeed runnin! free on this one. Flip over for a very special take on "Paddlin'" from Firecracker and Prime Numbers supremo Linkwood. Hot from his recently released LP "System", DOG very pleased to have them work their magic on this release. Dark, brooding and raw is the name of the game here, but most certainly not at the expense of detail and intricacy. The main man behind Linkwood is a total stickler when it comes to analogue technology in music and this permeates the remix creating a beautifully warm and distinctive character. |
