Gnanfou EP

AL USHER
MISERICORD

12" : £ 6.8

This is the brand new label from Ewan Pearson, Sasse & friends - a strange, dour name you may think so I was interested what it meant - A Misericord (apart from being a South African metal band) is is a small wooden shelf underneath folding seats in churches & it is also a long, narrow knife, used in medieval times to deliver the death stroke to a seriously wounded knight!! All meanings derive from the latin for mercy but you wont be needing to show any when it comes to the label's debut record. Al Usher, who you should know from his remixes & one half of Partial Arts with Ewan, gives us the stunning "Gnanfou" sounding like Lindstrom at his best, a chugging melodic throbber that never teases over 114bpm. On the flip, Swag offer a faster yet still smooth housier remix whilst in the B2 slot sits a another small classic in-the-making, "Here Today". It sounds like "Coast"-era Sub Sub doing the music for a John Ford western. If only all records were as good as this....
