| We'd say that the compilations were a little thin on the ground this year ; there are far less mix CDs making it to a physical product. We were very sad to see the excellent Panorama Bar Cds will be download-only in the future - Ryan Elliott's wouldve been in the top 10! Luckily, Fabric are still holding their own on that front. however, there are still many gems from the triple LP 90s-house sound of the Parisian label 'My Love is Underground' to the much-needed Dance Mania retrospective and the Balearic gems contained in the sequel to 'Down to the Sea and Back' from Balearic Mike and Kelvin Andrews. We indulged ourselves on the No 1 though - its our own compilation, our biggest seller this year and a favourite of the staff, and underlining a decade since Phonica opened. |

10. Optimo (Espacio) - Dark Was The Night - Endless Flight Scottish duo and dj legends Optimo aim to soundtrack the sound of a 'dark Winter's night' on this excellent mix CD. Optimo's 76 minute , 21 track mix starts with Grouper before taking us on a journey through Terrence Dixon, Hecker, Silent Servant and Hieroglyphic Being. A dark Glasgow night indeed. |

9. Various Artists - Too Slow To Disco - How Do You Are? It was about time someone made a soft rock / Yacht rock (or even Vanilla Funk??) compilation. Mostly emanating from L.A., this sound will never be cool but will always be a guilty pleasure. Super-smooth, over-lavish, luxury-laden excesses. |

8 . Bill Brewster - After Dark: Nightshift LP - Late Night Tales An obscure and timeless DJ-led journey from the Lowlife resident and DJ History legend Bill Brewster. Once again Bill comes with a sensitivity and a sense of occasion that few other DJs possess as he delivers a batch of slow-cooked musical stews with the emphasis on fun. We were lucky enough to have Bill do an in-store to launch this CD this year and he played all of the included gems on here from Mugwump's 'Boutade' top lesser-known gems such as the unreleased Fernando remix of Detachments. |

Prosumer - Fabric 79 - Fabric "It was a bit like the process when packing for a gig: records that, for some reason, you think are a good fit for the club you are going to, some all-time favourites and some tracks you just discovered that you want everyone to hear. I mixed it in my living room, using vinyl, a computer and mixer." Prosumer. Achim gives us a stunning mix, our Fabric mix of the year (and there were some good ones!) We were lucky enough to have Prosumer give us a stunning remix of Luv Jam's 'Quip22' on Phonica White this year and he is probably one of our favourite DJs. |

5 . Mister Saturday Night - Weekends & Beginnings - Mister Saturday Night Capturing a heady Sunday evening in Brooklyn , this mix was recorded live at Mister Sunday on August 24, 2014. It's still a pretty accurate picture of New York's best DJ duo in their natural habitat – wobbly turntables, excited distortion, dusty records and all. Caribou, Mr G, Adesse, Recloose, Lord Nelson are all included here alongside the singalong classic 'Love Endeavour' from Alice Smith. |

It may be a little self-indulgent to put our own compilation at No 1 but we couldn't resist; we poured our heart and soul into this and we think it's a bloody damn great collection of music. Twenty five specially commisioned tracks from some of our favourite producers, friends, family, the lot. Easily our best selling compilation of the year and appearing in many of the staff charts, we've heard it so many times and still not got tired of it. Joe Claussell, Lo Shea, Juju & Jordash, Raudive, Roman Flugel, I:Cube, Mr G, Legowelt and many more give us exclusive tracks with the CD package also being a retrospective of the Phonica label. So, we round off our 10th year finally with this compilation. Thank you to everyone who supported it! |
