(True Story) I was out in London For Red Bull Muisc Academy 2010 I heard Theo Parrish drop this at London famous Plastic People Venue. My first and only time there and saw the faces and people screamed right when that Piano chord dropped and Lynn Marino vocal soared, What a magical night that was. All the House heads going off vibing and house dancing to no end. It crosses over to the jazz heads and hip hop BBeat diggers still love this tune to know end. Etta James. pop, blues, rock'n'roll, soul, jazz, she sang them all with aplomb. But it was her string of stunning singles during the 1960s that cemented James as one of the great female vocalists of all time. "In the Basement" was a 1966 single on Chess Records. It's one of her great tracks, written by and performed with her childhood friend, Sugar Pie Desanto. The excitement and raw energy in her vocals tells me this is a party I can't miss. You can practically smell the funk in this basement. I first heard the song on radio when i was teenager, it grabbed me as soon as I heard her amazing growl. I love the raw, gritty soul of this recording — a rare groove indeed. I can always start a party by dropping this gem, perfect tune to turn it out. Break out the cognac & bourbon, lets get this thing going.
