“Loud 45rpm cuts on storm grey, marbled “Eco-Mix” regrind PVC, with DIY lino printed sleeve”
The intention behind the production of this release, is to prove that visually exciting, high quality, eco-friendly vinyl can be produced on a short run and at a low price. The “Eco-mix” process re-uses leftover coloured PVC, saving money and being much more sustainable than carbon heavy, black wax.
Whilst the colour of the vinyl is predominately [and fittingly] a marbled storm grey, each record is slightly unique in colour, as the combination or reground pellets is random from disc to disc.
With the test presses on black vinyl, a quality control test has been taken to discern any audible differences between black and eco-mix wax. The only thing noticeable after being recorded and digitally analysed is a slight increase in surface noise. Given this is typical for coloured disks, and the release has been cut loud at 45rpm, it doesn’t affect playback at all and the eco-mix pressing provided great results.
Dance music is struggling on a global scale. I believe one way of helping it survive is putting an emphasis on the importance of physical releases that people can collect, hold and love. At a time when it is financially harder than ever before, in a world demanding more sustainable choices, only on the record can you hear the full length original mixes, plus a bonus vinyl only version.
Moreover, to support record shops stocking the record, the shops have the choice of selling at a lower rate for customers or bringing it up to typical market cost, making greater return.
