For the best part of the last decade, Dumfries-born, Glasgow-raised Liam Shortall AKA corto.alto has been in his home studio in the Southside of the Scottish city, cooking up frenetic improvisations, diligently wonky productions and genre-spanning compositions with a close-knit group of local collaborators. Now signed to Ninja Tune, the multi-instrumentalist producer, composer and performer announces “SOME SMALL FORTUNE”, which finds Shortall at his most expansive and unpredictably exciting, working with his widest range of features to date, collaborating with the likes of Mick Jenkins, Vector, anaiis, Oscar Jerome, Jacob Alon (Brit Award winner), BINA., Terra Kin and Eriff alongside his longtime Glaswegian band, drummer Graham Costello, Mercury Prize nominated Fergus McCreadie and saxophonist Mateusz Sobieski to produce an electronic, classical, pop and indie-influenced record that extends far beyond the confines of its meticulous making. ⌗ Previous album Bad with Names landed corto.alto his first Mercury Prize nomination in 2024! ⌗ The album also hit Official Charts in the UK- including #4 on the Jazz & Blues Albums Chart, #19 on the Independent Album Breakers Chart, #25 on the Scottish Albums Chart and #31 on the Album Downloads Chart. ⌗ corto.alto picked up an award for Breakthrough Artist at the AIM Independent Music Awards 2025. ⌗ The band’s electric performances have seen them sell out 2 nights at Glasgow’s Barrowlands (2K cap), and London’s KOKO (1.5K cap)! Returning to home soil in 2026 to perform a sold out regional tour across Scotland, this year corto.alto will also be performing at We Out Here, Cross The Tracks, WOMAD, and more, making a stop in Newcastle for the BBC Proms, before heading off on their UK/EU tour, with 2027 headline shows at Barrowlands (2x 2K cap) and Electric Brixton (1.8K cap) being announced alongside the album! In 2026 corto.alto and his band set off on a headline tour of the US for the first time, making stops in New York, Seattle and Los Angeles, selling out all tickets- and merchandise!- for their shows. ⌗ When in the US, the band stopped by the KEXP studios, performing a riotous live session that gained over 50K views in just 2 weeks, with viewers sharing their love for the band’s virtuosic performances and raw energy. ⌗ “DON’T LISTEN” featured on the EA Sports FC 26 playlist- a game that averages around 40,000-50,000 players a day! ⌗ Over 14,000 Shazams on released album tracks so far, accounting for 22% of total Shazams!
