With a shuffle, a wink and a swing of the hips, Original Cuts returns to wax with a quartet of tried-and-tested dancefloor bumpers from label head honcho Deadly Sins.
As usual, Deadly Sins has provided us with a four-pack of hypnotic, filter-heavy disco cuts that slither their way across the dancefloor with all the sinewy charm of an eager python on heat. Taken inspiration from forgotten disco gems and simmering secret soul jams, Original Cuts 03 bumps, grinds, struts and jigs from start to finish.
First up is “My Love (Hot Tonight)”, a veritable disco snake charmer that will have all but the most dour-faced miserablist grooving with the best of them. Its building loops, sensual strings and soulful vocal samples tickle, tease and tempt with erotic intent. Rush-inducing? You bet.
“I Can Feel It” is, if anything, even more unflinchingly dewy-eyed. With its impassioned vocal, lazy jazz guitars and oh-so-addictive groove, it should get things moving in the downstairs department – feet, hips or otherwise.
Then there’s the small matter of “I Can Dig It”, a long, lolloping groove that builds steadily towards a gasping disco climax. Its tempo maybe be slow and methodic, but it has “dancefloor banger” written all over it, probably in that chocolate body paint stuff they sell at Anne Summers.
A sterling EP closes with “Dance To The Music”, a hypnotic, head-nodding blast of slo-mo disco goodness built around a choice selection of high-grade samples. When the horns and vocal drop, you’ll probably lose all self-control – or at least dance like a bit of a nutter.
