Silver is Ilhan Ersahin’s latest project and a bit of a departure from his other musical undertakings. A group consisting of himself on Rhodes keyboards and Tenor Saxophone, trumpet icon Eddie Henderson, bass legend Juini Booth and drums/percussion sorcerer Kenny Wollesen.
Silver emphasizes on mood and tone. The “bite-sized” approach of this ensemble translates as a string of 5-minute individual pieces .
“Silver is the latest project i have started up. The idea of the music is elegance throughout time/pulse, a beautiful balance in between soundscapes and long notes. It is about improvisation as well as more minimal thinking. The improvisations having more of a linear approach rather than the normal arpeggiated or excited approach to the solos. And having two jazz legends and four of us being long time friends makes this a very cool ensemble. Eddie Henderson, Juini Booth , Kenny Wollesen…what else can I say. Three great players that also are dear to me and to each other. Juini has played with everybody from Tony Williams life time band to Art Blakey to Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner and Steve Grossman. Eddie has some legendary records recorded in the 70’s under his own name and has since then been active on the jazz scene. He was also a member of Herbie Hancock’s “sextant” band. Kenny Wollesen from my other project ,Love Trio, has also recorded and played with many people including John Zorn , Tom Waits, Bill Frisell, Norah Jones , Bebel Gilberto.”
