Mr Oizo, the king of willfully odd dancefloor fillers and willfully dancefloor filling odd tunes returns on Ed Banger with his biggest record since 'Flat Beat'. Now considering how absolutely massive 'Flat Beat' was, that's no small claim. But hey, if you've been to any party involving the Ed Banger crew or people who play their music you'll have heard both 'Transexual' and the unbelievable 'Patrick 122'. 'Patrick 122' is based around the classic disco tune; 'Do It At The Disco' by Gary's Gang, but with the saxophone part coming to life, growing legs and big comedy sunglasses and then running off into the disco hills, leaving a trail of dancefloor carnage in it's path. 'Transexual' is dedicated to Walter/Wendy Carlos, obviously an influence in Oizo's sphere of twisted musical experimentation, and in itself resembles a warmer, friendlier Dopplereffekt with crisp thuding beats, dark electro synths and a monotone spoken word motif running throughout the track. Always good to hear electro that'll have more people on the floor than just scary shaven headed men in sleeveless leather jackets and 80's sunglasses...In fact probably the biggest track of it's kind since Miss Kittin's 'Requiem For A Hit'! 'Ovoma' finishes of the A-side and continues where 'Transexual' left of with more arpeggiated, insistantly climbing synths and crisp electro-ness and spuelchy squelchy bass, think Kavinsky in a K-hole only more pleasant to be around. Finally the EP's rounded off with 'Blind Concerto', which was "recorded on a rainy day with 5 computers linked together" according to the reincarnated ghost of Michael Jackson speaking through what appears to be Stephen Hawking's voice box, and sounds like the ship from 'Flight Of The Navigator' dancing drunkenly with the all those computers in the background of old Sci-Fi shows, you know, the ones with all the red and green and yellow lights. Totally, totally fucking ace.
