Record Store Day is just around the corner and we can't wait to celebrate. Each year we stock over 200 exclusive releases across all genres and since going through the entire Record Store Day stock list can be a little daunting, we've created a little cheat sheet of some of the records that we highly recommend! We'll be open from 9am until 8pm with a few special guest to DJ and play live on the amazing TPI soundsystem so come down, pick up something special and enjoy the vibes!
A few weeks ago, a mysterious 12" showed up on our doorstep with an even more mysterious edit of Wings' 'Nineteen Hundred Eighty Five' on it. The record sold out within the hour and was flippin' for over £280 on Discogs and Ebay. Now it's back again in the form of a VERY LIMITED 7'' (worldwide exclusive for Phonica Records [100 copies])... The artist behind this edit is revealed on the B side... BE QUICK!
One the best Techno / Electro 12''s from the one and only Juan Atkins finally gets a repress! Recorded back in the mid '80s these records were way ahead of their time and even sound futuristic today. Night Drive defined a sound and a movement. This seminal release inspired a generation in Detroit that went on to define the genre of Techno. The timeless vocal holds its power in 2016 with the same intensity it held in 1986. The Chase (with rewords from Derrick May) also gets a well deserved repress!
A unique and never before released collection which demonstrates the remixes and productions Larry Levan carried out when he wasn’t filling the dance floor DJing at the Paradise Garage. Larry Levan was a king of remixing and editing often adding that special “Levan” magic to some huge artists of the time like Gwen Guthrie, Smokey Robinson and Loose Joints amongst others. His studio talents didn’t end there however, as Larry worked with and produced artists such as Grace Jones and David Joseph to name but a few.
Long last tracks from one of the undisputed kings of Hip-Hop production. These tracks feature vocals from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Bilal and Kokane plus addition production Madlib, Pete Rock, Hi-tek, Karriem Riggins and a few other legends. Essential for all Hip Hop afficinados!
Beautiful little 10'' here from the Nigerian Afro-Beat pioneer sees its first reissue since the original release in 1986. Both songs on this one are extended jams clocking in at over 13 minutes each.
Private Life was originally written and recorded by The Pretenders in 1980 but the songwriter, lyricist, supermodel, record producer, and actress Grace Jones took it to the next level with her cover version.
Loose Joints' 'Pop Your Funk' has to be one of our all time favourite Disco records and this 3x12" compilation includes every version, remix and edit of the original tracks. Highlights include the Larry Levan 'Female Vocal Version', two Masters at Work remixes (one vocal, one dub) and a banging remix from New Shoes.
Mr.G's Record Store Day is Thursday...every Thursday. Unless he's playing somewhere exotic on the otherside of the globe he's here at Phonica every Thursday for a fresh fix of wax. Every year he puts out a special 180g 12" for RSD and this ones a scorcher. Dancefloor distruction guaranteed!
The Australian edit extraordinaire drops a limited 12" to celebrate RSD2016. Tuff Cut 09 flew out the shop as quickly as it arrived and we anticipate this one to do the same. Surefire Disco party starters right here!
7 tracks remastered from James Mason's personal master tapes Liner notes are written by James Mason himself. TIP!
Originally released on West Africa's Decca imprint back in 1975, The legendary Ghanaian singer and keyboard player's 1st release LP is as rare as it gets! Lovingly reissued by the good guys from Soundway records, we can't wait to get our hands on this Afrobeat classic!
Who doesn't love a little picture disc!? Mellow Mellow Right On come correct for Record Store Day 2016 with Glenn Jones' "I Am Somebody' and Sweet Charles' 'Yes It's You'. Quality cuts!
We're big fans of the original TinTop record but Kon's given it a fierce update for 2016 and we're loving it!
Two massive tracks on this white label promo. Cracking House music on one side, thumping Disco on the other. Limited copies, No repress!
Who doesn't want a DJ Koze 10'' with a turky perched on top of a very phallic looking aubergine? OID - 33 33 33 on the A side, Wasserman remix of DJ Koze's Don't lose my mind on the flip!
Legendary French duo Daft Punk pay homage to one of their favourite blues legends, the late Junior Kimbrough, with an epic 15 minute remix. Also has a beautiful etching of the late legend on the flip... shame you can't see it too well in the photo but it looks great!
Great reissue here on heavyweight red 7'' vinyl from Capitol Records. That haircut... THAT STARE... take my money now you handsome devil... TAKE IT NOW!
Rare cover version from the Slits pressed on crystal clear 10" vinyl. Originally release in '79 and still packs the punch today!
Have you heard the good word? Jesus has some great acid and he's tripping balls! Original mix on the A side, 28.3 mix on the flip.
Pop classic back from '89. Pressed on a great looking picture disc.
Finders Keepers delve into the archives for two gems of Serge Gainsburg collaborator, Jean Claude Vannier. Epic. Operatic. Psychedelic. French.
