Despite its relatively short history, the Lyon-based duo has already released two widely acclaimed EPs that put the Brothers From Different Mothers imprint on the map, an equally well received mini album on Macadam Mambo and a double LP that ended up in our top 10 albums of 2016.
Guillaume and Louis have a flair for fusing a broad range of influences, from ingenuous synth-pop’esque delicacies, trippy video-game soundtracks and harsher jungle-y rhythms with an ever inspired sense of amusement and flippancy. And if that wasn't enough, check their hilarious LP cover that earned the noble title of 'Best Sleeve Of The Year' for all the wrong reasons.
We caught up with the guys ahead of the mix. Check what they had to say below.

Hey guys, hope 2017 is treating you well so far. What have you been up to lately?
Hey Phonica, thanks for having us. For the moment 2017 involved touring and producing gabber beats so I guess it’s a good beginning.
Do you have any releases in the pipeline for this year?
Some mysterious split EP on BFDM, and one remix we’re currently working on… We’ve got some 2016 Zouk in stock too.
Tell us about the mix, where and how was it recorded?
We recorded it at Lyl Radio studios in Lyon cause they have all the stuff: Mk2, CDJ, Rodec and working soundcard. Big up guys! We put the tracklist together few days after an early Trance focused night in Clermont Ferrand (101, great club!), so the vibe was still going on. The mix is all about having a Trance dream: being stucked into a PS1 game, surrounded by pixelated dolphins. It includes big favorites, recent finds and homemade recordings of after parties.
How did the Pilotwings project came together and what is your connection to the BFDM crew?
We’ve been knowing each other from childhood and making music for a few years now. We met Judaah - BFDM’ prophet - around 2013 and followed is sacred path since. He’s the most honest and down to earth person we met yet. BFDM is now a big family covering Lyon and Paris and we are very proud to be part of it.
How is the scene in Lyon? Any local DJs, producers, labels or events we should keep an eye on?
It’s not the best time for Lyon events (check « La Boule de Cristal » nights though). But you should definitely have a listen to theses new releases from our friends :

Next up on the Phonica Premieres, the London-based imprint Eglo Records delivers a sweet 7" of modern boogie/funk.
Following up on his magnificent debut on Alexander Nut's label, Tokyo resident Sauce81 provides another funk bomb in the form of ‘Dance Tonight’. This infectious groove may sound like it’s been abandoned in a dusty crate for years but the bright japanese producer actually recorded all the vocals and instruments himself last year in Tokyo.
With a dub version on the flip, surely this 7" will be rockin' dancefloors worldwide.

For the premier appearance of the year on the Phonica Premieres, we have selected a certainly soulful track by one man band SofaTalk.
After successful releases on labels such as Banoffee Pies, Love Sexy Records or Ambassador's Reception, the Italian producer debuts on the London-based ANMA records with two cuts of his signature futuristic machine funk, channeling chunky Juno keys, percussive rhythms and sweet flutters on the Rhodes.
The EP comes with a remix from the man K15, fresh from his work with Henry Wu and as Culross Close, who has retrofitted ‘Hypnotise’ with a mesmerising 2-step groove and dubbed out 8-bit garage FX!

Happy New Year everyone!
The Phonica Mix series kicks off 2017 in style with Stockholm's finest Henrik Bergqvist delivering the first instalment of the year.
The Swedish DJ and producer cut his teeth as a resident DJ at The Office, a series of warehouse events that became an underground institution in his home city. After a string of succesful releases on Aniara and Bossmusik, Henrik started his own imprint, Trouble In Paradise, in 2015 alongside Noah Gibson.
His consistency both behind the decks and in the studio is earning him the reputation as one of the freshest emerging talent from North Europe. We are thrilled to present you this mix!

Hey Henrik, Happy New Year! What have you been up to lately and how is 2017 going so far?
To you too! I’ve spent my New Years Eve in Amsterdam playing for Breakfast Club. Otherwise the usual; making tracks, working on my day job, hanging with my girlfriend and buying too many records.
Do you have any releases in the pipeline for this year?
Yes! We have a 12” compilation on Trouble In Paradise coming in February with a fun little track by Abdulla Rashim and me. It’s a live recording from when we where just started fiddling with gear and producing our first tracks years ago. I'm also working on my next solo ep which is almost done, no label for that one yet, I might do something fun myself!
Tell us about the mix, where and how was it recorded?
The mix was recorded in my living room in Stockholm with a Formula Sound FF-4000 mixer, 2 x Technics and a Cdj (shitty needles though sorry!).. There is some unreleased stuff, favourites of mine, some new tracks, a few edits.. Last thing I did was to send it off to wizard Arkajo for light mastering.
Did you have a concept in mind for it?
I did not think of a specific concept before doing the mix but now when I listen back to it think the year has made it’s mark on it. 2016 was a dark year in many ways and I think I needed something optimistic and hopeful (with some bumps) for the start of 2017.
We’ve heard you enjoy playing at after parties - like the one pictured in the banner above. Has this influenced your style as a DJ?
I like to think about the peak time as the time when the dj should give people what they want and afterhours as the time when the dj should give people what they didnt know they wanted! And I’ve always gravitated towards this second approach so I guess it has influenced my style quite a lot.
How is the scene in Stockholm these days? Any local DJs, producers, labels or events we should keep an eye on?
The scene is a alive and kicking! Too many to mention! I’ll do the short list..
For once I used one of my friend Basement Space’s unreleased tracks in this podcast. Velv.93 is an upcoming dj with a head turning record collection, Noah Gibson soon releases on a major techno label. The Office dj’s, Haloomi Crew, Doviu, Sthlm Murder Girls etc etc! Regarding events I enjoy Mmmmm Club, Under Bron and various underground events curated by Eie and S&L.
Will the city see another The Office event in the future?
I hope so! Maybe we should make that our New Year Resolution!
Lastly, any New Year resolutions you are already not planning to keep :)?
I promised myself to buy a little less records in 2017 but I’m already using my next Panorama Bar gig in February as an excuse to not keep it!
