The London-based label will launch with a record from the rising Naples producer.

This month see the launch of a new label called OKNO, independently helmed by two people sometimes seen behind the counter at Soho institution PHONICA RECORDS.
As well as using the intimate knowledge of underground music gained in the course of working at Phonica, label co-founders Laetitia Deering and Abi Thompson have booked the likes of Helena Hauff, Powell and Lee Gamble for their Blackboard Jungle night over the past few years. They also work for the booking agency Annex, making them experts on the full spectrum of leftfield techno.
The label’s first record is released on March 30, and comes from Naples-based producer NPLGNN, whose last release on Where To Now? found high-profile fans in Ben UFO, Mumdance and L.I.E.S. producer Low Jack. Combining the rhythmic swagger of Powell’s productions with some of Perc’s more rave-inspired moments, his music is as pleasingly sandblasted as that of The Trilogy Tapes’ Rezzett.
“The label is going to be run like a white label,” Deering told us over email when asked about OKNO’s future plans, “so it’s mainly going to be 12''s – just not with white labels on the records. Apart from that, it’s just going to be something that’s quite instinctive. The only real strategy is to release interesting music. There is no policy really.”
The label are remaining tight-lipped about what to expect from future releases, but they promise that the next will be quite different from the first. In the meantime you can stream NPLGNN’s storming ‘1925 Ft Deep’ from the label’s debut release below, and pre-order the 12'' from Phonica now by

Moving in circles surrounding Exchange Place helped craft his style of Djing & musical influences. Influences were many, especially growing up in the early 80’s, listening from hip hop to new wave & anything in between. He spins a range from soulful/deep house to deep techno. His DJ style is careful selections arranged skillfully into to one seamless journey.
Nicuri’s first release was on Strength Music Exchange Place “Ridinthatneedle”. It was a start on his journey to connect with people through his music. His fledgling discography includes releases on labels such as Strength Music, Bliq, Inimeg Records and Mora Music. Nicuri returns to his own label Sound Theories soon, keep your ears peeled!
